Floyd Townsend Jr. Obituary

Funeral services for Floyd Townsend Jr., 81, a retired bookkeeper from Winnsboro, will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the chapel of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Rev. Wayne Smith, and Rev. Floyd Hawthorne officiating. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Townsend was born on August 18, 1930, in Winnsboro, and passed from this life on December 9, 2011, in Atlanta, GA. He was 81 years old and a life-long resident of Winnsboro, Louisiana. He married his wife, Johnnie Mae Herrington, daughter of Melvin and Letha Mae Herrington on October 6, 1960. He was married for forty-four years to his one true love, Johnnie Mae, whom he cherished and adored above all others. Floyd and Johnnie enjoyed vacations with family, eating at Catfish Cabin, and spending hours in their yard creating beautiful flower beds that were admired by everyone. Mr. Townsend's devotion to his church, family, and employers was evident throughout his life. He worked as a bookkeeper for McLemore's Jitney Jungle for over 40 years and was known by many as "Mr. Floyd." After his first retirement, he worked 15 more years for Community Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Townsend believed in "keeping his accounts balanced" and loved working with numbers. Mr. Townsend had many interests. As long as he was able, he walked across the road to visit his mother, Mary Townsend, every day. Floyd loved making banana pudding and other sweet treats for family and friends. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and he looked forward to their visits. In the last few years, his visits with his daughters created much laughter, fun, and precious moments that his grandchildren will always treasure. Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Townsend was a member of Wayside Pentecostal Church, First United Pentecostal Church, and Victory Apostolic Church. Although he was not able to attend church often during the last few years, he looked forward to watching Victory Apostolic Church services live on the internet. He was a man who walked in righteousness and honored God in his home and workplace. Mr. Townsend's gentle nature, sweet spirit, and soft-spoken manner will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Townsend, Sr.; birth mother, Annie Davis Townsend; and wife, Johnnie Mae Townsend.
